JOIN STATE MP ABIGAIL BOYD TO LEARN MORE ABOUT DATA CENTRES AND HOW COMMUNITIES ARE RESISTING THEM & STAY FOR AN INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP ON THE NATIONAL CLIMATE RISK ASSESSMENT.

What is that huge data centre being built in Marsden Park going to mean for the surrounding suburbs--Hassall Grove, Glendenning, Dean Park, Colebee, Bidwill, Shalvey, Melonba, Marsden Park itself?

Hotter temperatures in summer heatwaves? Worse water shortages in dry summers? Higher power bills? Air pollution from the diesel burned for back-up generation? Constant, irritating noise? A fall in house values?

Meanwhile, the 2025 National Climate Risk Assessment shows that we are sleepwalking into environmental catastrophes that were unimaginable 50 years ago. The megafires that swept across Europe and the glacier collapse in Nepal are warnings. The powerful corporations—fossil-fuel mining giants, data-centre developers, etc.—want us asleep while they destroy our planet.

What can we do to protect ourselves? Come to the Hassall Grove Neighbourhood Centre on Saturday 10 October and we’ll work together on some answers.

Greens Upper-house MP ABIGAIL BOYD will speak at 2.00 p.m. on questions such as:
•    WHAT communities are doing to resist the building of data centres;
•    HOW chairing the NSW parliamentary inquiry into data centres has helped shape her thinking on this crucially important topic;
•    WHY Greens NSW has called for a moratorium on AI data centre development.

From 3.00 p.m. we will break into groups for a hands-on workshop. The available activities will include:
A.    BRAINSTORMING—how do we support the moratorium campaign?
B.    RESEARCHING—what impacts does the National Climate Risk Assessment actually predict?
C.    CREATING—with the skills we have as humans, how shall we create effective banners, posters, poems, songs, social media tiles, leaflets, memes, the works to stop the powerful corporations in their tracks and save our neighbourhoods?

Everyone is welcome. Everyone has something to contribute.

If you just want to attend the first hour on data centres, that's OK. Or if you just want to come for the interactive workshop that begins at 3.00 p.m., that's fine too.
