Our popular 'Let's Talk' series is back! Join Greens MLC and spokesperson for water in conversation about saving our wetlands
Turtles dying in a dried up waterhole that should have been full of water and teeming with life must be a wake up call for the NSW Government.
After decades of promises, plans and billions of public money spent on dodgy projects to ‘save’ water, the Murray-Darling basin system is still dying. While big corporate irrigators hold just as much influence over politics and water policy.
Unfortunately water management is complex, and those who are benefiting from its many failures hope it stays that way! But we think it’s pretty simple. A certain amount of water needs to stay in the river to reach wetlands and to meet other environmental and cultural needs and that’s not happening.
Time for more of us who care about our wildlife and nature to get informed, get active and speak up for water!
Please join Cate Faehrmann for an important online discussion with water experts including Dr Deb Bowers, who led the rescue efforts for the Gwydir Turtles and Bill Johnson, a prominent commentator on Australian water management and former director of the Murray Darling Basin Authority (with more to be announced soon).
We’ll unpack what’s driving this crisis, the critical role environmental water should play and why governments are falling short when it comes to protecting wetlands, wildlife and river systems.
The webinar will also include a Q&A so any questions you have can be answered
