Our popular 'Let's Talk' series is back! Join our guest speaker Senator Mehreen Faruqi to discuss our right to protest
Join Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi and President of the NSW Council for Civil Liberties, Lydia Shelly to talk all things resistance, dissent and protest.
We are facing one attack after another on our right to peaceful protest. Nearly all States have passed anti-protest legislation in the last five years. And more recently, we have seen disgraceful attempts to silence and intimidate activists. Shamefully, the Federal government and Labor premiers across the country lined up to stop people and students protesting for a free Palestine and for climate justice.
From the police crackdown on trade unionists, activists and community members in Port Botany to the many arrested in Newcastle at the Rising Tide blockade, we are witnessing police overreach and aggression.
The right to protest is a cornerstone of any functional democracy, it is critical to holding the powerful to account and must be protected.
