Join GPET and Professor Stuart Rees (University of Sydney Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies) to discuss the big questions surrounding peace and non-violence.

Peace and non-violence is one of the The Greens' Four Pillars, but what does it mean in theory and practice?

Professor Stuart Rees AM is an Australian academic, human rights activist, author, founder of the Sydney Peace Foundation and Emeritus Professor at the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney in Australia.

In this members only event, we will explore the meaning of Peace and Non-violence in theory and practice. Member participation is encouraged, and the event will be in the form of a standard Zoom meeting to enable moderated discussion.

Some questions that could be explored include:

Who has the power to demand non-violence, and who is given license to be violent? Should the police and prisons be reformed or abolished, and what could replace them? Is violent resistance justified in response to violent colonialism? Is war ever necessary?

Answers to these questions could inform Greens’ policy.

Join GPET and Professor Stuart Rees on 10 November at 6pm via Zoom.

If you are under 18, your parent or guardian will need to contact the event organiser directly to let them know there will be someone under 18 attending.
