Join Senator Mehreen Faruqi, Sophie McNeill and the Greens for Grayndler team as we talk to Marrickville locals about Palestine and the upcoming election
Doorknocking is one of the most effective campaigning tactics we have at our disposal as it gives us the opportunity to talk to the community face to face, allowing us to have more persuasive conversations. It is the best way to change someone’s vote and so it’s very important that we get out there and talk to as many voters as possible.
Our community is telling us they care deeply about justice for Palestine. As part of the international community, our elections matter too. Join with us in having conversations with the community about how we build this movement for justice and a free Palestine.
On Saturday 5 April, the Greens for Grayndler campaign will be joining local Palestine activists to chat to Marrickville residents about the upcoming election. We will meet at Marrickville Park (corner of Frazer St & Livingstone Rd) at 10.30am and will be joined by two very special guests:
Senator Mehreen Faruqi- Dr Mehreen Faruqi is the Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens and Senator for NSW. She is a civil and environmental engineer and a life-long activist for social, environmental and racial justice. Mehreen holds the Education, Anti-Racism, Animal Welfare, Climate Adaptation & Resilience, the Republic and International Aid and Global Justice portfolios for the Greens. She has been the loudest voice in the Australian Parliament for justice for Palestine.
Sophie McNeill- Sophie was just elected to the WA Parliament in the Legislative Council for The Greens (WA). McNeill was an investigative reporter with ABC TV’s Four Corners program and a foreign correspondent for the ABC and SBS in the Middle East, working across the region in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Gaza, the Occupied West Bank and many other countries. McNeill has twice been awarded Australian Young TV Journalist of the Year and has won three Walkley Awards for her investigations in Afghanistan and Syria. She is the author of “We Can’t Say We Didn’t Know: Dispatches from an Age of Impunity.”
You don't need to be an expert to have these conversations, we'll provide training on the day. If its your first time, we’ll pair you up with someone more experienced. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring something for sun safety and wet weather. We will have a debrief and food/drinks afterwards.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of this event. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian will need to contact the event organiser directly to let them know there will be someone under 18 attending.
