After one of the largest acts of civil disobedience in Australia’s history how can we bring this momentum to the polls?

This week, Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek is considering approving three new coal mines—decisions that could add over a billion tonnes of emissions and further delay the urgent climate action we need. These proposals are deeply disappointing, particularly when communities are already grappling with the catastrophic impacts of climate change.

At this pivotal moment, the success of Rising Tide: The People’s Blockade—one of the largest acts of civil disobedience in Australia’s history—offers a powerful reminder of what grassroots organising and collective action can achieve.

As we look toward the upcoming federal election, we must reflect on how to strengthen our movement and make climate justice central to Australia’s future. How do we build on the momentum of movements like Rising Tide to create lasting political pressure? How do we organise effectively to deliver meaningful change both inside and outside the political system?

This event will explore these questions and more, featuring:

  •     Sue Higginson, Greens MP & spokesperson for Climate Change
  •     Zack Schofield, Rising Tide Organising
  •     Suhasini Gunatillaka, Rising Tide Organiser
  •     Luc Velez, Federal Candidate for Sydney
  •     Hannah Thomas, Federal Candidate Grandyler

Together, we’ll chart a path forward to keep coal in the ground, advance climate justice, and win the systemic change we need. Let’s rise together—join the conversation and be part of the movement shaping Australia’s future.

This event is fully wheelchair accessible as it's being held online.

If you are under 18, your parent or guardian will need to contact the event organiser directly to let them know there will be someone under 18 attending.
