Big Spotty has thrived for over 500 years on Yuin country, giving and receiving in an abundant environment. Many beings would like her to carry on, in place, in an abundant environment. We visit to pay our respects and to recommit to supporting the survival of this old growth native forest, so that other trees can reach such maturity, become such beacons of life. Big Spotty is the tallest Spotted Gum in the world, and World campions of their speices deserve more than a mere hectare of protection surrounded by hundreds of hectares of logged forests.

An afternoon tour of Boyne State Forest is also available - hear about citizen science Spotted Quoll project and observe firsthand impacts of logging Native Forest.

Big Spotty

• 9.30am: Meet at Termeil Service Centre picnic tables (has sandwiches, coffee) to carpool into 4WD/SUVs (driving through two mud stretches).
• 945am Drive 5 km dirt roads to the start of Four Mile Road then potentially muddy 2.7km to Big Spotty (100m bushwalk down the hill)
• 11.45 Return to Termeil for lunch and comfort stop and to regroup for those also doing next part of tour.

Boyne State Forest Logging Tour

(Cars can be left safely at Termeil)

• 12:45 pm Drive south 15 minutes (20 kms) to Boyne State Forest next to Princes Highway
• 12:45pm  Tour up Old Nelligen Road includes 500m walk to Myrtle Forest Valley (unlogged), Bit Bit Lookout where Spotted Tailed Quoll exclusion zone was created - citizen science example, then on Big Bit Lookout Road a 600 m logged-forest walk with examples of felled hollow bearing trees,, exit on Big Bit Lookout Road.
• 2.15pm  drive back to Termeil
• 2.30 Tour End at Termeil
