Our Bodies, Our Votes: Abortion Law Reform Public Meeting

Monday 6 June 2016, 6:00pm

Glebe Town Hall, Glebe

Event Information:

It's time for abortion law reform in New South Wales.

Abortion has been a crime in NSW since our criminal laws were drafted over 100 years ago. Only through the interpretation of case law and the tenuous presence of narrow exemptions are abortions permitted in New South Wales.

The ongoing criminalisation of abortion restricts the availability of access, and stigmatises and shames those who require termination services.

All Australian states and territories except New South Wales and Queensland have decriminalised abortion, and some have legislated for safe access zones around abortion clinics to protect patients from harassment and intimidation.

After giving notice of the first decriminalisation bill in NSW history in 2014, the Greens have launched the End12 campaign for abortion law reform and now released an exposure draft of the bill, following extensive consultation with stakeholders. (View the bill & FAQ documents:

With debate on the bill expected in parliament this year, medical and legal experts, and community activists will meet on the evening of Monday 6 June at Glebe Town Hall to discuss the need for abortion law reform and the Greens bill to make it happen.

This event is free and open to the public.
