The first $1,500 contributed during a financial year to a political party in Australia, including membership fees, is tax deductible. Donations legislation in NSW is the strongest in the country because of campaigning by the Greens. There is a limit of $2,000 that an individual can donate to a political candidate (or $5,000 to a party) in a financial year.
